Teacher Turnover
We all know that our algorithm isn’t reality—but statistics don’t lie. Since the pandemic, teachers are leaving the profession in droves. In 2023, it was recorded that 16% of teachers are leaving and even less future teachers are entering the field/credential programs. 80% of schools over here in California report that they have a teacher shortage—one that all 50 states are feeling.
Teachers hold one of the most important roles that our children will interact with outside of our homes. Remember your favorite teacher? Was there ever one that truly impacted you? Those teachers, the ones who truly work on their craft of teaching to impact and change the lives of their students—they are leaving. There is a breaking point where the effects of the profession on the teacher is too burdensome. It starts to outweigh the joy the profession brings. Teachers have been volun-told to be martyrs all in the name of “Do it for the kids.” Things like taking on more for no additional pay, spending more time with your students than your own family, being the shield for your students when danger arises. The mental health of a teacher is often overlooked and uncared for.
But we care. We want to see teachers come alive again. Love what they do again. Engage in the activities and relationships that they created in their playroom as a little boy or girl. Our hearts are for teachers to feel valued with their time and pay. To partner with parents and students again for the joy and love of teaching. The classroom no longer fulfills those needs, so we created a platform for you to be part of homeschool pods instead.
When a teacher becomes a Pod Educator, they get to teach a homeschool pod of 8-12 kids (not 36 like some of our instagram teacher friends are telling us) where they can truly guide students on a path of personalized education. They become part of the pod family and get the rare opportunity to grow with their students.
For our former teachers reading this: We believe people are born teachers—you innately know how to connect the dots and turn on the lightbulb, to light the fire, and inspire the next generation. Your gifts for teaching were meant to be shared and we want to give you a healthy platform to share them.
We have launched our Educator Masterclass within the Educator Forum where you can learn how to teach a Pod, connect with other like-minded educators, and re-engage yourself in a functional and rewarding teaching experience!
I hope you’ll join us.
